Lunching with a friend, I glanced at her perfectly manicured nails and asked if she did her own. She then told me that they were stick on nails! I had to have them, what with my horrible nails!
After searching a few high street stores I finally found what I was looking for in Boots: Stick on nails. These temporary, one day wear nails have a glue pad on the back of the nail which means they are quick and mess free. They cost I think around £6.50, I can't remember the exact amount. I think this is a lot considering they can only be used once and for 24 hours. I could have bought the 7 day wear nails from the same company which can be reused for the same price. The reason I suspect is that I am paying extra for my laziness and the components are the same (nails + glue). That and I don't want to wreck my already fragile nails with glue and acetone. They just need a gentle file once applied to remove any rough edges.
They look pretty unreal in the photo but they settle down once you get used to them. I really loved them as they were the perfect length and colour. I didn't try and paint them but if you do then please remember to use acetone free nail varnish remover. The glue pad does make then sit proud on the nail and if you have flat nails then these aren't for you. There is a flat nail version from Kiss as well.
I grew to absolutely despise the fact that the nail doesn't stick down completely at the cuticle end. When trying to brush and style my hair, the hair would get stuck under the nail at the cuticle end and stick to the glue, which is quite painful! The other major downside is that all manner of dirt and stuff gets trapped under the cuticle end and embedded in the glue. It is the perfect excuse not to do the washing up or any cleaning! It's also the most compelling reason to put these on last after your make up and hair is complete.
These nails were really easy to remove, I simply soaked them in hot water for 10 minutes and they came off with a gentle peel. They didn't damage the nails underneath and there was no glue residue.
Would I buy these again? I still have another set of nails in this pack which I shall save for a special occasion but then I don't think I will again. I don't like the fact that they aren't reusable. If I could get the glue pads off I would buy some glue and use them again. They are excellent for practising nail art though!
i used to wear stick on nails when i had horrible bitten nails.
ReplyDeleteI found that if you placed the back of the nail under the cuticle they stayed on better and look even more natural...well as natural as stick on nails can! lol
